Overview

The Coalition outlines the steps needed to help reduce gun violence in the District of Columbia. Tiered goals are developed, and events are planned to expand the reach and support of potential employers and the hiring of District residents. The overall design is established, and tasks are identified for each Jobs Not Guns Initiative. With a variety of mini-grants from Building Blocks DC, Office of Gun Violence Prevention (OGVP), AmeriCorp, the District of Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (ONSE) and in-kind support of the DC National Guard, the Coalition hosts Jobs Not Guns Initiatives. The events are supported by members of the District Council, federal and public agencies, ANCs, unions, employers, community organizations, major corporations and community stakeholders. The Jobs Not Guns events have confirmed participation between 75 to 90 exhibitors comprised of potential employers, apprenticeship and on-the-job training, support and social service providers. Attendance ranges between 150 to over 300 District residents, in addition to over 200 via live-streaming. All participation is open and free to the public.
